Doris is the smallest among her troop of gorillas, and she feels like she doesn’t belong. Trying her best to find her place, she studies how other animals live and wonders if she would be better suited with a different group. Off she goes to find her true self, but try as she may, pretending to be another animal just doesn’t seem right either. After yet another mishap, Doris reaches for a vine to stop herself from falling, and her instincts kick in. Could it be she is a great gorilla after all?
Doris holds a special place in my heart; she embodies many qualities I admire. She is curious, thoughtful and undeterred when things go array. She brings a lot of energy, creativity and happiness to each situation. I think we can all learn from Doris to appreciate the special qualities we have.
I hope everyone will enjoy the story as well as the hand drawn illustrations.
My Story
I grew up in NW Montana. I have always loved creating art out of many different mediums (paint, wood, cardboard, foam, fabric, whatever I can get my hands on). Growing up I was always creating stories for my stuffed animals, they would have full football games with handmade paper bag jerseys, ride in a bear mobile (a large cardboard box fully I converted into a car with functional doors), and of course had bear picnics with all the fixings.
I enjoy biking, kayaking, traveling, spending time with family/friends, and going on adventures with my rescue dog Eleanor (pictured in party hat). I have a BFA in Design/Technology and Masters in Business Administration. Every day there's something new to learn, adventure to be had, or story to hear.
I am incredibly excited to kick off the Doris Adventures, she has a lot more fun to get up to.
